Lewis does have something of a personal connection to the story.

Growing up in inner-city Memphis, Michael was extremely poor, and his mother, Denise, was a crack addict who barely took care of him. Michael Oher is the protagonist of The Blind Side, and a real-life NFL star, who’s played offensive tackle for the Baltimore Ravens, the Tennessee Titans, and the Carolina Panthers.
